"Planet M" at the Expo 2000
The heart of the World Exposition EXPO 2000 was the EXPO Plaza and the Bertelsmann pavilion "Planet M/ Media for People".
Inside, a multimedia journey through time awaited the audience. The sphere, which resembled a spaceship, was accessed via a lift platform. This lift platform is considered the largest passenger lift in the world. 200 people could be transported at the same time. The total weight of the lift was almost 50 tonnes. Four pistons lifted it upwards by means of oil hydraulics, surrounded by a "giant bellows".
This "giant bellows" still represents one of the most outstanding and complex tasks for the realisation of one of the largest bellows in the world. It was manufactured by us in only four weeks - from plastic-coated fabric.
The "Planet M" pavilion was rightly perceived as the most innovative building of the entire EXPO. What the visitor perceived as a unit was in reality a synergetic effect of ideas, experience and high-tech at the highest level. We are very proud to have made a decisive contribution to this.
